Digital Cameras

Nikon D7000

Found at a game store CIB for $250.

My first true professional camera that I still use to this day. Controls are very intuitive, and there's no need to dig through menus to change common settings.

*

Sony NEX-7

The first choice for my daily carry. Lightweight, small, mirrorless, and it even has a max ISO 16000. It always surprises me and somehow takes gorgeous pictures every time (even with dirty lenses.)

*

Sony Alpha a5000

Eh, it's a good camera. It's basically the updated NEX-7, but it is tiny and uncomfortable. You're buying this camera for vlogging, E-mount, or the sensor. I wouldn't recommend this as a daily carry, but it will work. If you want a good, cheap mirrorless camera, just buy the NEX-7 for about the same price.

*

Sony Mavica MVC-FD5

This is witchcraft. Digital photos on a floppy disk. This takes very low fidelity photos. They look like photos that would fit on a floppy disk. Very fun little device.

*

Sony Mavica MVC-FD200

This is the last floppy disk Mavica, and you can see all of the improvements they've made since 1993. The pictures that come out of this are pretty clean (considering the resolution), but they lack the charm of the FD5.

*

Nikon D100 (Broken)

I ordered this camera specifically because it's the camera that Frank West uses in Dead Rising. However, I got it from eBay for really cheap, and wasn't betting on it working so I could use it as a prop. I would like to get a working one, though.

When taking a picture, the shutter doesn't fully actuate, and the whole camera completely cuts power.

Film Cameras

*

Canon AE-1

Found for ~$120 in a cardboard box with a lot of extra goodies and lenses.

Has a 50% chance of putting a vertical light square in the middle of a picture taken. You'll see what I mean. My favorite camera by far. The metal makes it feel... idk grounding? Like it mattered to whoever made it.

*

Kodak Cameo

Got it for like $10 from the same store. It comes with a cool little leather pouch.

I went through a single roll with this camera just to test it. Turns out, it does take pictures! Yeah, not anymore. Even though it was super small and took really good photos, the mechanism is too smart for its own good. I put another roll to carry it around, but something happened where it forgot about being loaded. It has to unroll the entire roll before you're able to take pictures. It also works the other way around where it will only wind the film back if there's no more pictures to take. It must be stuck thinking that it already wound it back? IDK. Either way, the roll inside of it is ruined since you have to open it up. I just haven't bothered with it since because film is expensive.

*

Nishika N8000 3-D

I don't even remember how I got this camera, but I'm so glad I have it. You don't adjust anything. It's all automatic. I'm going to make the pictures taken by this into gifs.

*

Polaroid SX-70 Instant Camera

Do I even have to say anything? Look at it. Hands-down, this is the coolest camera I own.

...and it uses SX-70 film. The only way that you can obtain this film is through Polaroid's website. I think I'm just going to send it off to convert to 600 film. We'll see.

*

Polaroid OneStep 600

There any many like it, but this one is mine. It's a Polaroid 600. It works.

*

Polaroid OneStep SX-70

I only have this because the OG Instagram logo is based off of it. It's the classic OneStep that everyone thinks of when they think of an old-school Polaroid.

...but it uses SX-70. UGH.

*

Polaroid Go

I wouldn't recommend this little thing. The pictures are miniscule, and there's no special features like saving digital copies or whatever. Just buy a full-size one unless you really want a Polaroid to fit in your pocket.

Camcorders

Magnavox CVL355AV01 (1990)

My favorite camcorder. This was a Christmas gift from my oldest sister, and it works without a hitch. I've always wanted a full-size VHS camcorder. and I'm so glad that I've finally got one. Due to its size, it is very hard to take it to places. When I do, people tend to stare or ask questions about it. I do worry about the mechanism failing one day, but I'll cross the bridge when I get to it.

*

JVC GR-D244U

This baby is my actual childhood camcorder. I have old MiniDV tapes from my childhood that were recorded on this exact camcorder. The mechanism doesn't work because of the infamous JVC mechanism in this thing. The plastic gears shrink and crack over time making it basically useless. I need an external DVR like a PowerPlay to be able to use it. Luckily, I've gotten great results out of it. Mounting the DVR is awkward since there's no cold-shoe, and the screen hinge is REALLY flimsy.

*

JVC GR-D270U

That's where you're wrong, my friend. This is the exact same camcorder, BUT it has an SD card slot. Does that mean it can record video to the SD card, like I believed whenever I bought the camera? NO! It's only used for still photos. I assumed wrong.

The good thing about this camcorder is that the mechanism does still work! I have to get a cleaning kit since it no longer produces a picture. Swabbing the head with an alcohol swab brings it back momentarily, but not long enough to rip the image.

*

JVC SXM250U

Picked this up for $40 at the same game store as my D7000.

You win some, you lose some. The mechanism works perfectly. The video outs work. The audio? Screeching. I don't know if the audio out has a bad ground or if there's some other fault causing the audio screw up. Either way, I can not use it in its current state.

*

Sony Handycam

Cool, sleek, proprietary. It is currently useless since I do not have the remote, and the touch screen doesn't register touches. No buttons! NO BUTTONS?!!
